Giardini di Boboli - Boboli Gardens The Medici family purchased the Palazzo Pitti in the mid 16th century and the gardens were designed by Niccolò Pericolifor. The gardens were first opened to the general public in 1766 and are a superb example of Renaissance gardens. You will find many statues, including Michaelangelo's Quattro Prigioni, the Lawn of Columns and amazing views across Florence city. Amongst the cypress trees and holly you will discover the coffee house, built in 1766, LaGrotta Grande, built in 1583 and in the centre of the moated garden, on a little island, you will find an orange tree orchard that dates back to 1785. The gardens are open 8.15am - 4.30pm November-February, 8.15am - 5.30pm March, 8.15am - 6.30pm April, May, September, October, 8.15am - 7.30pm June, July, August.
