Cappella Brancacci Housed in the Santa Maria del Carmine churched is the Cappella Branacacci, Brancacci Chapel. The church in itself is rather dull but if you pass through the cloisters into the chapel you will discover what must be the start of the Renaissance. Many great Florentine artists were influenced by these paintings in the 15th century. Felice Brancacci commissioned two layers of frescoes in 1424, that illustrate the life of St. Peter. Masolino da Panicale designed the frescoes and painted them with his talented pupil, Masaccio. Neither finished the painting and it was eventually completed by Filippino Lippi in the 1480's. The chapel was restored in the 1980's and the clarity of the frescoes is such that you can tell the differences in styles between Masolino and Masaccio. Open: Daily 10am-5pm. Closed Tuesdays Price: 3,10 Euros Telephone: +39 055 2382195
