The Cappelle Medicee The Medici Chapels are part of the Basilica San Lorenzo, and are the mausoleum for the Medici family. Michelangelo started the construction on the Sacristy in 1520, including sculptures of the sarcophagi. In 1534 Michelangelo was moved to Rome and only two statues were completed, Duke Lorenzo and Duke Giuliano. The poses of the principal figures represent the Contemplative and Active lives, whilst the statues probably represent the conditions and phases of human life. The Capelle Medicee is a wonderful example of Renaissance and baroque art. Open: Tuesday - Saturday 8.15am-5pm, 2nd and 4th Monday 8.15am-1.50pm, 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday 8.15am-1.50pm Price: 4 Telephone: +39 055 2388602
