Duomo Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore) Florence's skyline is dominated by the Cathedral which is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore, and is a typical Italian Gothic structure. The designer, Arnolfo di Cambio, enlarged the original religious structure and was finished around 1367. The Cathedral facade remain unfinished until the 19th century. Another remarkable feature on the outside of the church is the Porta 'della Madorla', a large aureole around the sculpture of the Virgin by Nanni di Banco. The interior of the church holds very important works of art, including works by Paolo Uccello and Andrea del Castagno. Many of the sculptures that were made for specifically for the church, including works by Michelangelo, have been moved to the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. Many of the stained glass windows were designed by famous artists like Andrea del Castagno, Paolo Uccello and Donatello, and were made between 1434 and 1455. The wooden inlays of the Sacristy's cupboards should also be noted and were designed by great artists such as Brunelleschi, Anotio de Pollaiolo and others. Open: Daily 10am-5pm Price: Free The Cupola The Dome, known as the Cupola, was built between 1420 and 1436, and was built by Filippo Brunelleschi. Open: Daily 8.30am-7pm Price: 6€ Campanile di Giotto Giotto's bell tower, known as the Camanile di Giotto, was started in 1334 and is clad in the same three coloured marbles of those in the Duomo.
