Archaeology and Art Museum of Maremma The Grosseto museum was established in 1860, with the help of Giovanni Chelli who started small collections within the library. The museum is now divided into five sections each with its own speciality. Section 1: First Museum of Grosseto This is dedicated to Giovanni Chelli and contains his original finds. There is a variety of objects, including a substantial collection of Etruscam cinery urns of Hellenistic Age. Section 2: Roselle This is dedicated to Roselle, a key factor in the new mounting of the Grosseto Museum. The exhibition shows the continuously changing features and the history of the town including the economy. customs, town planning and events. Objections contained in this sections range from Roman statues, archaic funerary steles, 4th and 5th century documents and tomb-kits, just to name a few. Section 3: Archaeology in Maremma This section is dedicated to Grosseto archaeology finds dating from prehistoric to the late Ancient Age. There are several rooms displaying many different objects including those from the Iron Age and the Hellenistic Age. Section 4: Sacred Art Museum of Grosseto Diocese This section is mainly the private collection of Monsignor A.Cappelli, and compromises of works from Siena and surrounding areas. Many other artworks have been taken from the diocesan churches and are very valuble. Section 5: Mediaeval Archaeology in Maremma and Grosseto History. This section is dedicated to the history of Grosseto. Items date back to the Classical Age and includes extensive documentation dating from the late Middle Ages to the Modern Age.
