Palazzo Vecchio The Palazzo Vecchio, 'old palace' is also known as the Palazzo della Signoria, and was built over at least three stages between the 13th and 16th centuries. It is located in the Piazza della Signoria. The palace started off as the seat of the Priors of Art and of the Signoria and temporarily housed the Grand Ducal family under Cosimo I de' Medici before their transfer to Palazzo Pitti. Although the palace still contains the offices of the City Council the whole palace is a museum and it is worth seeing. There are four monumental apartments, the Quarters of the Elements, the Residence of the Priors, the Quarters of Leo X and the Quartes of Eleonora of Toledo. Not to be missed is the Hall of Lilles, the little Study of Francesco I and the Hall of the Five Hundred. The Loeser collection is housed on the mezzanine floor and is rarely open to the public. Open: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Satrurday 9am-7pm. Thursday and Sunday 9am-2pm Telephone: +39 552 768325
