Prato

Located just 17 kilometres northwest of Florence, Prato is a small town that was founded by the Ligurians and is full of Roman and Etruscan history. Prato was a major wool producer over 900 years ago and is still one of the main textile producers in Italy.

Prato is historical and artistic. In the centre of Prato you will find a 13th century castle, still enclosed with in medieval walls that surround the old city centre. The castle was built by Hohenstaufen Emperors and is still well preserved.

Prato is also well known for it's Contemporary Art Centre, the 'Luigi Pecci', which is located in the eastern part of town in modern buildings.
