Siena Siena is located in the heart of Tuscany set on three hills, with Florence 70km to the north and Rome 230km to the south. Siena is a lovely Tuscan town with many medieval streets, superb architecture and plenty of museums and monuments to keep you occupied. Siena was once a Roman colony, and the town boasts many reminders in the way of statues of Remus and Romulus. The town is divided into 17 districts and each district has it's own animal emblem, and there is still a traditional tribal system in place. One of the first places to visit in Siena is the Piazza del Campo, the secular heart of Siena. The square is lined with cafes, and the focal point is the Palazzo Pubblico dating back to 1250. Probably the best way to explore Siena is on foot, as it is easy to walk around the city and catch all the sights on offer. There is a multitude of museums to visit, all offering exquisite arts and sculptures, and famous frescoes including those by Simone Martini. Whilst in Siena its always good to attend on of their many festivals, including the Palio Races, the biggest traditional festival in Siena.
