Festivals range from local religious processions to avant-garde musical events. Italians are very keen on celebrations and festivals and you will find there is something for everyone. Festivals are listed below:

A major tourist attraction is the Palio, a well-publicised mediaeval equestrian challenge based in Siena since the 1300's. This is held every July 2nd and August 15th. The neighborhoods challenge each other to a race around the central Piazza or Plaza of Siena as a peaceful means of settling rivalries.
